Introducing Project Gomila

The completion of the first five buildings of Project Gomila in Palma de Mallorca marks a significant milestone in the transformation of the area around Plaza Gomila in the neighborhood of El Terreno. Designed by MVRDV and GRAS Reynés Arquitectos, Project Gomila comprises seven buildings, each contributing to the revitalization of El Terreno as a vibrant and sustainable residential neighborhood.

A Neighborhood Reborn

El Terreno, historically known for its vibrant nightlife in the ‘60s and ‘70s, fell into neglect and decline over the years. However, the Fluxà Family, owners of the Camper shoe brand, initiated a renewal plan centered around Plaza Gomila. This plan aimed to blend heritage with innovation and creativity, echoing Camper’s philosophy.

Building Character and Diversity

The completed buildings of Project Gomila showcase a diversity of colors, materials, and rooflines, each with its own distinctive character. Among them, the Gomila Center stands as the heart of the neighborhood, featuring a mix of commercial spaces, offices, and apartments surrounding a spacious patio. Nearby, Las Casitas and Las Fabri-Casas offer red townhouses and row houses, respectively, fostering social interaction among residents.

Sustainable Living

Embracing sustainability principles, the Gomila buildings are energy-neutral, incorporating high thermal efficiency and passive climate control measures. Solar panels on rooftops harness Mallorca’s abundant sunshine, while locally sourced materials reduce carbon emissions during construction. These efforts align with the project’s commitment to environmental stewardship and energy conservation.

Future Phases

Future phases of Project Gomila will see the addition of two further buildings: Casa Virginia and a small villa adjacent to the Gomila Center. These renovations of existing neighborhood structures will contribute to the continued evolution of El Terreno as a dynamic and inclusive community.

Project Gomila represents a bold vision for urban renewal, blending modern design with sustainable living practices to create a vibrant and resilient neighborhood for generations to come.
