Nestled in Meran, a historical town boasting natural springs dating back 5,000 years, the Therme Meran project by Matteo Thun & Partners draws inspiration from the region’s rich heritage. With a backdrop of the Southern Alps and an abundance of sunshine, the town’s thermal baths have been a draw for centuries. Matteo Thun’s design pays homage to this legacy, creating a seamless connection between the indoors and outdoors, reminiscent of the unobstructed views enjoyed by ancient bathers.

Transparent Design

At the heart of the Therme Meran is a striking glass cube flooded with natural light during the day and illuminated by large globes at night. These globes, casting reflections off rotating colored discs, create mesmerizing patterns on the walls and waters, evoking the beauty of a sunset. The design allows bathers to transition effortlessly between twelve indoor pools and thirteen outdoor counterparts, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. Complemented by a fitness center, saunas, beauty center, café, and bistro, the facility spans 50,000 square meters of parkland.

Integration with Nature

Matteo Thun’s approach emphasizes the spirit of the place, sustainability, and unobtrusive technology. Water, sourced from deep wells within the gardens, flows seamlessly throughout the facility, emphasizing its natural motion rather than its infrastructure. Through the use of natural stone and wood materials, continuity is forged between indoor and outdoor spaces, extending seamlessly into the surrounding park. This integration with nature not only enhances the wellness experience but also ensures environmental harmony.

Holistic Wellness Experience

Rooted in the ancient belief of “Mens sana in corpore sano” – a healthy mind in a healthy body – a visit to Therme Meran offers a complete wellness journey for both body and soul. Beyond physical rejuvenation, the facility fosters mental well-being, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature while enjoying state-of-the-art wellness amenities. Therme Meran stands as a testament to the timeless appeal of holistic wellness, embracing tradition while embracing modernity.
