Conceived by IBUKU in 2023, this wellness space transcends conventional design paradigms, offering a sanctuary where mind, body, and spirit converge in perfect harmony.
Natural Integration and Balance
At the heart of The Lumi Shala lies a profound connection to nature, evident in its meticulous use of natural materials and innovative architectural systems. The structure, enveloped by earthen walls, exudes a sense of tranquility and enclosure, providing an ideal setting for yoga practice. Bamboo arches gracefully ascend from mounded foundations, mirroring the balance inherent in the human form and grounding the space in a symbiotic relationship with its surroundings.
Illuminating Spaces: A Play of Light
Central to the design philosophy of The Lumi Shala is the thoughtful manipulation of natural light. Five grid shell roof petals, arranged strategically, allow gradients of sunlight to cascade into the interior, illuminating the space with a soft, ethereal glow. Structural Ingenuity and Innovation
Drawing inspiration from the groundbreaking design of the Arc at Green School, The Lumi Shala pushes the boundaries of architectural innovation further. Employing prescriptively curved bamboo arches and intricate grid shell structures, the space achieves remarkable clear spans of 21m, showcasing the prowess of structural engineering and design craftsmanship. Hidden trusses, strategically angled to remain invisible from the interior, contribute to an atmosphere of airy lightness and openness.
