Introduction

Nestled within a lush garden, the Sauna Garden Studio stands as a testament to harmonious design and natural beauty. Crafted by Madeiguincho architects, this wooden sanctuary offers a tranquil retreat amidst the picturesque landscape of Portugal.

Contextual Integration

Embracing the natural contours of the site, the sauna emerges gracefully from the slope, offering panoramic views of the surrounding scenery. The project’s design ethos revolves around seamlessly integrating with its environment while providing a new platform for relaxation and contemplation.

Functional Simplicity

The layout of the studio is clear and efficient, with two distinct rooms divided by a central axis. This design not only facilitates the transition between the sauna and bathing spaces but also establishes a connection to the main house and the rooftop lounge. A symmetrical facade adorned with windows reminiscent of eyes invites guests to gaze out onto the landscape.

Inviting Spaces

Ascending to the hanging platform, visitors are greeted by dual entry points—one leading to the sauna room and the other to the bathing room. The sauna room offers a cozy retreat with breathtaking views, while the bathing room features a unique metal bathtub that slides onto an outdoor balcony, allowing guests to immerse themselves in nature while enjoying an invigorating cold bath.

Natural Materials

Cryptomeria japonica wood from the Azores dominates the interior, infusing the space with its aromatic essence that evolves with the sauna’s changing temperatures. A corridor linking the sauna and bathing rooms features a hanging cold-water bucket, adding an iconic touch to the studio’s facade and enhancing its symmetry.

Pathways to Tranquility

The corridor not only facilitates movement between spaces but also serves as a pathway to the main house and rooftop lounge. The rooftop, with its flat, contemplative layout, offers sweeping views of the mountains and sea, providing an idyllic setting for relaxation and introspection.

In conclusion, the Sauna Garden Studio epitomizes architectural elegance and tranquility. With its seamless integration with nature, functional simplicity, and inviting spaces, it offers guests a sanctuary where they can rejuvenate their senses and reconnect with the beauty of the natural world.
