Rediscovering “El Coso”
“El Coso” had long been a neglected area at the rear of Cehegín’s old town. Following a significant snowstorm in the 1950s, many homes in the neighborhood suffered damage or collapsed, leaving behind a sprawling, sloped expanse of empty land. Additionally, the absence of green spaces in the old town underscored the need for revitalization to create accessible, inhabitable gardens for the community.
Sustainable Water Management
One of the key features of the revitalization effort is the implementation of sustainable water management practices. Rainwater and wastewater from the sewer network are collected from the higher elevations of the site. This water is then channeled through a network of ponds populated with riparian plants, where it undergoes natural filtration to produce clean water for irrigating the garden’s plants.
