Unveiling the Great Park

Spanning over 500 acres of reclaimed land from the decommissioned Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, the Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California, stands as a testament to community revitalization and natural preservation. Comprising residential areas, open spaces, and interconnected trails, the park serves as a vibrant hub for outdoor recreation and communal gatherings.

The Heart of Rise Park

Nestled within the scenic expanse of the Great Park lies Rise Park, a nature-inspired residential community enriched by the Overlook. Crafted by Studio One Eleven, this 3,000 square foot triangular terrace serves as the park’s centerpiece, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Thoughtfully positioned to capture the enchanting hues of sunset and the majesty of Santiago Peak, the terrace beckons visitors to immerse themselves in nature’s grandeur.

A Haven for Social Interaction

Designed to foster community engagement, the terrace boasts an array of amenities conducive to social gatherings. An oversized community table, complemented by built-in seating and a custom firepit, invites neighbors to converge and converse amidst the picturesque backdrop. Flexible seating arrangements cater to diverse preferences, ensuring every visitor finds their ideal spot to bask in the beauty of their surroundings.

Melding Art and Nature

Integrated into the project are two striking installations by LC Studio Tutto, chosen through an international artist call. ‘Celestial’ comprises layered shade sails, evoking the graceful movement of wind currents and migratory birds. Meanwhile, ‘Into Sky’ features bird silhouettes stamped onto the concrete below, seamlessly connecting the ground plane to the terrace’s shade canopy above, celebrating the region’s native avian species.

A Sanctuary for Exploration

More than a mere architectural marvel, the Overlook at Rise Park invites visitors on a journey of self-discovery, encouraging them to engage with art, architecture, and nature in profound ways. Offering elevated perspectives and opportunities for contemplation, the design transcends mere aesthetics to foster a sense of freedom and communal belonging. Whether gathering with neighbors or savoring a tranquil afternoon, the Overlook stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful design in enhancing urban landscapes and enriching community life.
